  • ring generalship

  • gap control


When practicing it is sometimes good to take the gloves off. Forget about punching hard. Punch clean instead. The short sharp punch you don’t see are the punches that get the Ko. These need to be practiced slowly at first.

This is a snippet of my time training in the Philippines with world champion trainer Joven Ramirez. Trainer of IBF World champion Jerwin Ancajas.

They train the basics everydays. The gym I was in had about 20 fighters. All pro and all world ranked. They got to world level by using the basics.
